Sam Aldarelli Makes the First Tomato Pie in Asbury Park, New Jersey

Nicky's great uncle made his first tomato pie on Ridge Avenue in Asbury Park in the early 1920s. Sam, a baker at the time was the first to create the "tomato pie" on the Jersey Shore. The response was so great, Sam decided to give up being a baker and sell pizzas out of a restaurant named after his wife Freda.

THE TRADITION CONTINUES

In 1945 Nicky's grandfather Papa Nick and his wife Letizia bought The Market Tavern on 5th Avenue in Neptune and renamed it Mom's Kitchen. Today, Nicky and Dolly carry on the Aldarelli family tradition of fine Italian cooking at Mom's!
